Tristan
âTristan, can we talk?â
Robbie walked toward me, looking upset. His face was pale and his eyes troubled. Goddammit, what had Amos done now?
âWhatâs up?â
âItâs private. Maybe we can talk in your car?â
I checked my watch. I had practice to get to, and I didnât want to be late. If I were, then Coach might have us stay longer to discipline the team for my tardiness. It wasnât fair to the guys who arrived on time.
âI have a few minutes before I have to go to practice.â I opened the door for him. âGet in.â
Once he was inside, I shut the door, then skirted around the car to the driverâs seat.
âAre you going somewhere?â I asked him. âYour brotherâs?â
âActually, I was heading to the library for a study date, but I saw you and thought maybe I could talk to you.â
âIs this about Amos? He hasnât been pressuring you, has he?â
âNo, no.â He shook his head, but his face flushed pink. I could see why Barry wanted to protect him so much. He was too young for Amos, too naïve, but they seemed to care for each other genuinely. âAmos has been wonderful.â
âThen whatâs the problem?â
âIâve been avoiding him.â
âWhy?â
âBecause of Barry. He doesnât approve of Amos.â
âHe doesnât?â
âNo.â He frowned down at his hands in his lap. âHe thinks Iâm too naïve and that jocks like you and Amos are out of my league.â When I said nothing, he glanced up at me. âYou agree with him, donât you?â
âI donât agree with him disapproving, but I can see where heâs coming from. I saw how you feared Amos that first night you found out he was your mate. Weâre way more experienced than you, Robbie.â
âThatâs because I didnât know him, and I didnât expect that to happen when we kissed. I was surprised.â
âAll Iâm saying is move slowly. Thereâs no rush.â
âDo you think it would help if Amos and I had dinner with Barry? Maybe heâll see that Amos isnât so bad after all.â
âSure, but talk to Barry about it first. Donât spring it on him.â
It was surprising that Iâd learned so much about the man and his habits in just a week and a half ofâ¦of what? We hadnât defined our relationship, and heâd made it clear he didnât see a future for us, but I would give him time to see a relationship between us was inevitable.
âOkay, I will. Thanks, Tristan.â He threw his arms around me and hugged me. âI appreciate it. I couldnât talk to anyone else about this.â
âNo problem.â I patted his back. He slipped out of the car and ran up the steps leading to the library. I watched him go and sighed. If I was dating Barry, I would be âadoptingâ his little brother too. Thankfully, Robbie was sweet and likable.
